Levi is often considered one of the top destinations in Finnish Lapland—and sometimes the outright best—due to its accessibility, variety of activities, and vibrant resort atmosphere. It’s Finland’s largest and most popular ski resort, attracting over a million visitors annually, and excels in winter sports.
Levi is a renowned year-round resort and ski destination located in Finnish Lapland and sits approximately 170 km north of the Arctic Circle and about 180 km north of Rovaniemi, Finland’s “official” gateway to Lapland.
The town is excellent for aurora borealis, with an average of 111 clear nights per year and low light pollution in its surrounding wilderness. With easier access and igloo accommodations, the destination is recommended for first-timers wanting comfort alongside the chase.
Surrounded by vast Arctic wilderness, frozen rivers and dense forests, this positions places Levi in one of Europe’s northernmost inhabited, yet accessible regions in northern Finland.

Itinerary

DAY 1
Kittila Airport and transfer you into the Lappish wilderness, through pristine pine forest and snowy fells until we reach the Northern Lights Village. Your private cabin will provide you with your base for the experience, and offers beautifully cosy warmth against the Arctic weather outside.
DAY 2
Experience true wilderness with access to the site’s sleds, snowshoes and skis to explore the trails and paths. In the afternoon, it’s time for a husky safari with energetic dogs will take you on a tour of the incredible landscape, for around 10 km, and you’ll get to spend time interacting with these affectionate animals.


DAY 3
2-hour snowmobile safari, you’ll explore pristine fells and silent, snow-covered forest, frozen lakes and rivers, and magnificent hillsides and one of Europe’s last remaining wild places. In the evening, jump back out into the wild for an aurora camp by the lake to watch the aurora borealis.
DAY 4
Spent in nature and the extreme comfort you’ve enjoyed, head for a final breakfast and we’ll transfer you straight back to Kittila airport crossing off this ultimate bucket-list encounter.

Are the cabins comfortable?
The Aurora Cabins at the Northern Lights Village are a magical way to experience the wintry star-filled sky, while lying comfortably in the warm bed. The laser-heated glass-roof opens up into the northern sky, directly above the bed. Cabins’ unique design provide plenty of magical aurora-viewing potential.
When is the best time to book for Northern Lights viewing?
The best time to book this tour is during the winter months, from late September to early April. This is when Lapland offers optimal conditions for witnessing the Northern Lights. As Finland’s largest and most popular ski resort, Levi is a lively resort that offer ample gear rental options, making it special for travellers seeking adventure and aurora experiences.
I’m not an experienced photographer, can I still capture the Northern Lights?
Absolutely! You don’t need to be a professional photographer to capture the Northern Lights. The tours are led by experienced guides. This includes a professional photographer who will assist you in taking the best possible photos of the Aurora. So, whether you’re a novice or a photography enthusiast, you’re in good hands.
What gear should I bring with me?
Levi’s weather during peak aurora season (November-March), is very cold with temperatures between -15°C to -30°C. Layering is key to stay warm during long outdoor aurora hunts. Thermal and moisture-wicking underwear to keep you dry are essential. Photographing the aurora requires extra layering and bringin a small, weather-resistant backpack allows to keep insulated flask for hot drinks and power bank for phones or cameras in a safe dry place.
